Trend: Pastels | Goodbye neon?

May 10, 2013
Remember those extra-bright colours you used to wear last season; best known for their ability to blind every person near you? Yes, I'm talking about neon. I'm actually a big fan of vivid colors, but neon? Not that much. However, one of those Zara yellow necklaces or those adorable (seriously, adorable) satchel bags can really pull off an outfit. So anyway, don't say bye to neon; do however, make room in your wardrobe for a new way to bright up your outfits this Spring with other kind of stunning hues and let your friends rest their eyes from those extremely bright shades... pastels!

Flattering, sweet, oh-so-feminine and worthy of Ladurée's macarons. This season they are a key trend, but as designers from Christopher Kane to Antonio Marras - let's not forget about A/W collections, like Carven (my personal favourite from PFW) or Céline; and also past runway shows such as 3.1 Phillip Lim Spring-Summer 2012 (above) - have shown us that pastels are far from predictable. The S/S13 catwalks were a blur of spun sugary pastel shades; spearmint, candyfloss pink, parma violet, baby blue... Bright pastels are also de rigeur, think aqua, coral, sour apple, sunshine yellow and sky blue.

A few collections forecast isn't typically a reason for me to jump on a trend, but being the pastel lover that I am, you can imagine my excitement when this eventually became a trend. Reason enough to begin 'operation let's purchase as many pastel clothes as I can'. Because a girl can never have enough clothes, nor Ladurée coloured garments.

And what about this look from Céline's S/S collection? Iridescent pastels? Yes please!
Do you prefer pastels or neon? And speaking about trends; will you go graphic in squares and plaid? Or will you dare to bare in the new cropped proportions? I'd love to know what my Voguettes will be wearing this Spring!

P.S. - I finally joined Instagram a few days ago and I'm already obsessed with it! You'll find little glimpses of my not so fabulous life (yet) there, dont forget to follow me!

P.P.S. - I apologize for only including one photographic portrayal here, but the photoshop work requires pacience and when I try to crop models they end up losing a leg or part of their head!

Love,
Amy.

  2. That 3.1 Phillip Lim collection is still one of my favorites from the last few years - I think pastels are always a must for spring and, as you said, these are just some fresh ways to wear the pretty look - with more edge! But, I agree, still can't rid myself of neon totally!

    1. Is still one of my favourites too! I'm not the biggest fan of neon, but, like I said, a few accessories can definitelly pull off any outfit. X

  5. Neon is good, but i prefer pastel! Neon is nice, but pastel is more girly, cute and clean.

    1. Me too! Yes, is more 'unpolluted' if you want to call it that way, and makes you look a lot more feminine. XX
